How to Find Out What Kindle Model You Have

Over the past 14 years, Amazon has released a lot of slightly different Kindles. If you are wondering whether you have a Paperwhite 3, a Paperwhite 4, an original Kindle, or something else, we will show you how to fine the model.

If you are wondering whether you have a Paperwhite 3, a Paperwhite 4, an original Kindle, or something else, we will show you how to fine the model. Let’s explore how this is done in two different ways; on the Kindle, and by your Amazon account.

Use Your Amazon Account

:First, log in to your Amazon account through a web browser and click here to your Manage Devices page. You can also use the Amazon menu system to get there. Go to

Account & Lists > Content & Devices > Devices

Refer to below image:

Next, click on a Kindle. Now, click the blue link of your Kindle that you want to find the serial number of. See below image

In the Device Summary screen, you will see it next to Serial Number. Each model has its own unique set of prefixes. (The prefix is the set of letters at the beginning of the serial number.). See following image:

You are looking for the first block of characters. You can see G000T6 in our example, which corresponds to a Kindle Paperwhite 4 (You will be able to compare your prefix in the table at the end).

Note! While the Type is listed as Kindle Paperwhite (10th Generation), we still need the serial number prefix in order to tell which specific model it is.

Use Your Kindle Device

First, to check the serial number on the device itself, go to your Kindle’s home page and tap the three dots hamburger icon in the top right to open the menu. Refer to below image:

Next, tap Settings in the menu. See below image:

Now, on the Settings screen, tap Device Options. See following image:

Now, next to Serial Number, you will see the serial number of the Kindle. See below image:

Note! If you have an older Kindle (or are using an old version of the Kindle software), the menus might look a little different. You are still looking for Device Info.

How to Tell Which Kindle You Have

Once you have your serial number, you can compare its prefix to the options below. This will tell you exactly which device you have. Here’s a table summarizing the various models.

Info on Paperwhite 4 (our example)

The Kindle Paperwhite 4 (2018) is waterproof and has a touch screen with adjustable light. There are three models:

  • An 8GB version with Wi-Fi (G000PP, G8S0PP, G00102, G0016T, G8S16T, G0016U, G0016V, G8S16V).
  • A 32GB version with Wi-Fi (G000T6, G8S0T6, G0016Q, G00103, G0016R, G0016S).
  • A 32GB version with Wi-Fi and Cellular (G000T1, G000T2, G000T3).

It was available in black, sage, plum, and twilight blue.

Highlight Blank Cells

When you have a spreadsheet full of data that you expect to fill every cell, you can easily overlook cells that are left empty.

First, open the sheet and select the cells where you want to apply the formatting. Next, go to the Home tab and click Conditional Formatting in the Styles group of the Ribbon. Now, choose New Rule. Refer to below image:

Next, in the New Formatting Rule window that appears, click Format only cells that contain under Select a Rule Type at the top. See below image:

Now, at the bottom, pick Blanks in the Format only cells with drop-down box. Next, click Format to the lower right of the preview to select how to format the blank cells. See following image:

Now, in the Format Cells window, use the tabs at the top for Font, Border, and Fill to choose your formatting. Click OK. For our example, we are using Fill to color our blank cells bright yellow. Refer to below image:

You will be back on the New Formatting Rule window, where you will see a preview of the formatting for blank cells. If you are happy with it, click OK to apply the conditional formatting. See below image:

Save your changes

You should then see any empty cells in the range that you selected highlighted with the formatting that you picked. See following image:

Highlight Error Cells

Even though Microsoft Excel does a decent job of of pointing errors out to you, they might not be noticeable if you have a large sheet to scroll through. To make sure that you see the errors quickly, conditional formatting is the way to go.

You will actually follow the same process that you used in the previous section to highlight blanks, but with one difference.

First, switch to the Home tab, click Conditional Formatting, and then choose New Rule. Refer to below image:

Next, in the New Formatting Rule window, pick Format only cells that contain at the top. But this time, pick Errors in the Format only cells with drop-down box at the bottom. Now, click Format to choose the formatting. See below image:

For this example, adjust the Font options to make the cells with errors bold and red. Click OK. After you pick the formatting, click OK again to apply the rule. See following image:

A big part of your daily time is spent using your iPhone. Whether you want to understand your app usage, change your lifestyle, or just know which apps you need to cut down on, its helpful to know about your most used apps. Let’s explore this feature, called Screen Time.

Enable Screen Time

Before you can find out which apps you use the most on your iPhone, you will need to turn on a free feature built into iOS called Screen Time. This feature helps you keep track of how you use your iPhone. It can also help you put limits on your app usage if you would like, although that’s optional.

First, open the Settings app, and then tap the Screen Time option. Refer to below image:

Next, tap Turn on Screen Time and tap This is My iPhone or This is My Child’s iPhone. See below image:

Now, you will see a Screen Time summary page with no data, but we will fix that problem. Note! Each time you enable Screen Time, you data is removed.

Check Screen Time Again

The catch with using Screen Time is that it needs to be enabled to start gathering data about which apps you use the most. If you just turned it on, you will not have a most-used app list to look at.

So, now that Screen Time has been enabled, use your iPhone as you normally would. After a while, you can check back in with Screen Time and see some statistics.

Next, open the Settings app and tap Screen Time again. See following image:

Now, on the Screen Time summary page, you will see a chart that shows your average daily activity. Just under that chart, tap See All Activity. Refer to below image:

Next, choose whether you want to see your most used apps over the period of a day, week, month, or year at the top of the screen. See below image:

Now, scroll down to the Most Used section, and you will see a list of apps sorted by which you used the most over the selected time period, with your most used apps listed at the top. Tap an app to see more details. See following image:

Add a Limit

Next, while on the detailed-view screen, if you want to set a time limit to prevent you from using the app too much, scroll down and tap Add Limit. Refer to below image:

Now, you will see a screen where you can set a time limit for the app in hours or minutes. When you’re done, tap Add. See below image:

From now on, whenever your time is up, you will see an alert pop up, reminding you not to use the app anymore.

Make Single Picture Moveable

First, open Microsoft Word on your Windows or Mac computer. On Word’s first screen, select Blank document to create a new document. Refer to below image:

Now, in Word’s editing window, click the Insert tab at the top. See below image:

Next, under the Illustrations section, click

Pictures > This Device

This lets you add a picture from your computer. See following image:

Now, using your File Explorer, navigate to your picture. Double-click the picture to add it to your Word document. Refer to below image:

Next, on Word’s editing screen, right-click the image that you just added and select

Wrap Text > In Front of Text

from the menu. See below image:

Your picture is now freely movable. Drag and drop it anywhere you want in your document. See following image:

Make All Pictures Moveable

If you would like to make all of your future pictures freely move in your Word documents, you can modify an option in Word’s Settings menu.

First, launch Microsoft Word on your Windows or Mac computer. Now, on Word’s main screen in the lower-left corner, click Options.

Note! If you are on Word’s document editing screen, instead, click File at the top to see Options.

Next, select Advanced in the sidebar on the left. See below image:

Now, scroll down the right pane to the Cut, copy, and paste section. Locate the Insert/paste picture as option and click the drop-down menu next to it. See following image:

Next, select In front of text option in the drop-down menu. Refer to below image:

Now, click OK at the bottom of the Options window to save your changes and close the window. See below image:

From now on, Word will allow you to freely move pictures on top of text in your documents.

You might be thinking about spacing around your text. As is, with the picture being in front of your text, your text is hidden. One way to fix this is using the option Through or Top and bottom of the picture instead of choosing In front of text.

How to Download PDFs Instead of Viewing Them Using Chrome

When you click a PDF link in Chrome, the browser opens the PDF in a preview window. If you do not want this, you can change its default behavior.

The Chrome browser has a built-in option to change this default setting. You can instruct Chrome to automatically download the PDF file without opening it in a preview window.

Instead, Chrome will prompt you to save your PDFs. Let’s explore how to set this feature in Google Chrome.

First, open Google Chrome on your computer. Next, click the Chrome menu (three dots hamburger icon) in the top right-hand corner of your window. Now, select Settings. Refer to below image:

Next, in Chrome settings, click Privacy and security in the left sidebar. Click Site Settings on the right. See below image:

Now, scroll down in Site Settings and click Additional content settings at the very bottom of your screen. See following image:

Next, in the expanded menu, select PDF documents on the left. Refer to below image:

Now, toggle ON the Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome option. Refer to below image:

Chrome will now display the standard save prompt for PDFs.

Enable Converter in Word and PowerPoint

First, open a document in Microsoft Word or a presentation in PowerPoint. Next, click

File > Options

from the menu. Now, select Proofing on the left and click AutoCorrect Options on the right. Refer to below image:

Next, select the Actions tab. Now, check the boxes for Enable Additional Actions in the right-click menu then Measurement Converter from the list. You will notice other actions you can enable. Just checkmark any additional ones you would like to use. See below image:

Click OK, then OK once more to save and exit the options menu.

First, open Microsoft Outlook and click

File > Options

from your inbox or an email window.

Now, select Mail on the left and click Editor Options on the right. See following image:

On the next screen, choose Proofing on the left and AutoCorrect Options on the right. Refer to below image:

Next, select the Actions tab. Now, check the boxes for Enable Additional Actions in the right-click menu, and Measurement Converter in the list. Like with Word and PowerPoint you can checkmark the boxes for any other actions you would like to use. See below image:

Next click OK on all screens to save and exit,

Use the Converter in Office

When you receive a document that includes unfamiliar measurements, such as those from a foreign country, this tool takes the work out of manual conversions. And if you are creating the document yourself, you can convert the measurement for your audience.

Just, select the text containing the measurement. You can do this by dragging your cursor through it.

Now, right-click and move your cursor down to Additional Actions in the menu. You will see the Measurement Converter in the pop-out window. Refer to below image:

This lets you view the conversion. Additionally, you can click to select a conversion from the list and it will replace the measurement in your document, presentation, or email. This is convenient when you are preparing an item for someone expecting a different unit of measurement.

First, launch the Google Chrome browser on your Windows 10, Mac, Chrome OS, or Linux computer. Next, open a new tab and click the Customize pencil icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen. Refer to below image:

Now, in the pop-up window that appears, make sure that you are in the Background section. See below image:

Next, on the Background page, you will find a number of preset collections of backdrops, such as “Textures,” “Seascapes,” “Art,” and “Earth.” Google Chrome can automatically apply a new wallpaper from any one of these collections every day on your new tab page.

Let’s say that you want Google Chrome to display a new wallpaper from the “Seascapes” collection on your new tab page.

To do this, first, click the collection’s thumbnail in the grid. See following image:

Now, on the next page, Google Chrome will list all of the collection’s wallpapers. Turn on the Refresh Daily switch in the top-right corner of the pop-up window. Refer to below image:

Now, click Done to save your preferences. See below image:

Next, the new tab page on your Google Chrome browser will show a fresh backdrop from the “Seascapes” collection (or whichever collection you have chosen) every day.

If you like one of the background images, you can see the name of the current background’s creator and its source in the bottom-left corner of the new tab page. See following image:

There are plenty of other ways that you can customize Google Chrome, such as edit more elements of the new tab page, or create your own browser theme.

The Reminders app has seen significant improvements with iOS 13 and iOS 14. Earlier it was a simple application with basic functionalities. Now, Reminders is laden with robust features that let you add subtasks, images, and more! iOS 14.5 even lets you print reminders and sort them accordingly. Let’s explore some basic features.

Before You Begin: Make sure iCloud Reminders are set up so that everything syncs across all your Apple devices.

On iPhone and iPad: Open:

Settings app → your name from the top → iCloud

and make sure the switch for Reminders is turned ON.

Add a List

First, open your Reminders app or use Spotlight Search (your very first screen) to locate it and open. Next, tap the Add List blue link in lower right-hand corner. Refer to below image:

Now, give the list a name and tap Done. See below image:

First, tap the New Reminder blue link at the bottom or tap a blank area on your screen and enter your reminder text. See following image:

Next, tap the Reminder, then tap the Info Circle icon to set your optional Details for the reminder. Refer to below image:

Now, after you have set your optional details like Date, Time, Location, and more, tap Done. See below image:

Delete a Reminder

Tap the circle next to the reminder text and tap Done. A unique way to do this is just tap the circle, wait a moment, and your Reminder disappears. See following image:

View Your Reminders

Tap your Reminders icon, then tap your newly created list to view your Reminders. Refer to below image:

How to Free Up Space in Google Drive

It’s easy to run out of space on Google Drive, since it stores data across much of your Google account. Fortunately, it’s also easy to delete data and free up some storage. As you will see, I am running out of space. Let’s explore how to do this.

If you use Google Drive to share large files, it’s quite easy to hit the 15GB free data limit on your Google account. While you can upgrade, for a price, it’s best to manually delete some data for more space first. After doing this, I upgraded to the 100GB plan, yet I am still out of space.

You will not need to spend hours combing through every nook and cranny in Google Drive. The website has a storage management feature that lists all your files, sorting them based on their file size.

First, open the Drive website in your browser.

You will see the Storage section at the bottom of the left sidebar. This will show you how much storage space you have left in your account. Now, click the Storage button. Refer to below image:

Next, you will see a list of all the large files in your account. Just click a file to select it. To select multiple files, hold the Command/Control key while selecting the file.

Now, to delete the file (or files), click the Remove button (the Trashcan icon) in the top toolbar. See below image:

Google Drive will remove the file and send it to the Trash.

If you want to find and open a folder where a particular file is saved (or find more files to delete), right-click and choose the Show File Location option. See following image:

Next, you can select multiple files and use the Remove (Trashcan icon) in the toolbar to delete all the files at once. (You can use this method to delete entire folders as well.)

If you do not have a backup of the file that you are planning to delete, click the Download button in the right-click menu to download a copy of the file to your local storage. Refer to below image:

Once you delete files like this, the files are no longer available in Google Drive, but you have not recovered any storage space yet. That’s because Google Drive does not actually delete the files for 30 days. So, if you change your mind, you have up to 30 days to recover the data.

If you want to reclaim the storage space, you will have to force Google Drive to permanently delete the data. To do this, go to the Trash or Bin section in the sidebar. See below image:

Now, in the Trash, you will see a list of files that have yet to be deleted. To individually delete a file, right-click and choose the Delete Forever option. Or, click Empty Trash to delete all the files. See following image:

Next, in the pop-up that appears, confirm using the Delete Forever button. Refer to below image:

Now, all the files will be deleted. Once you reload the page, you will see that the storage space has been recovered.

How to Use Advanced Search to Find Tweets

Twitter has tons of information that flows by faster than we can comprehend. Fortunately, it’s possible to search for tweets using various parameters. Let’s explore this feature.

Search Tweets by Dates Range

Twitter provides both a mobile and a desktop browser Advanced Search page that lets you search for tweets posted within a certain date range. If you are on a mobile device, open your browser and click here for mobile. For the desktop browser, open your browser and click here for desktop.

Now, on the Advanced Search page, scroll all the way down to the bottom to the Dates section. There, you will find two parameters: From and To. Refer to below image:

Next, choose your desired month, day, and year for each parameter. Here’s what they do:

  • From: Set this to find tweets posted after midnight (12:00 a.m.) on this date.
  • To: Set this to find tweets posted up until midnight (12:00 a.m.) on this date.

While this sounds simple, using the parameters can be confusing. For example, if you want to find tweets only from May 20, 2021, you would set From to “May 20, 2021” and To to “May 21, 2021.” You will get tweets posted between midnight on May 20 until midnight on May 21. You would not set both fields to the same date. See below image:

Similarly, if you wanted to find only tweets from the month of May 2021, you would set From to “May 1, 2021” and To to “June 1, 2021.” That way, your search will cover all 31 days of May.

Now, scroll up and enter another parameter, such as a search term in the Words section, or an account name in the Accounts section. Next, click Search when you are done. See following image for an Account search:

When you see the results, you can further sort them by different criteria using tabs located just below the search bar. Top shows the matching tweets with the most engagements. Latest shows all matching tweets in reverse chronological order. Refer to below image for the Latest using my domain name:

If you need to do another search, just revisit Twitter’s advanced search page and search again. It includes many parameters that allow you to narrow down tweets on certain dates, people, photos, videos, and much more.

Search Tweets by Date Range Using Inline Parameters

Another way of searching for tweets from a specific date or dates is using inline search parameters that you type directly into the search box in the Twitter app or on the Twitter website.

Here are three parameters that you can use:

Note! the following are just examples, not for literal input.

  • From: Find tweets posted only by this Twitter account. For example: from:raymondxxx  or from:techsavvy.
  • Since: Find tweets posted since 12:00 a.m. on this date. The date format is YYYY-MM-DD. For example: since:2021-05-01.
  • Until: Find tweets posted until 12:00 a.m. on this date. The date format is YYYY-MM-DD. For example: until:2021-06-01.

For example, if you would like to see all tweets posted by the “techsavvy” Twitter account between May 1, 2021 and June 1, 2021, you would type the following into the Twitter search box:

from:techsavvy until:2021-06-01 since:2021-05-01

If you wanted to find all posts about “Safari” by “raymondxxx” posted on May 15, 2021, you would enter:

safari from:raymondxxx since:2021-05-15 until:2021-05-16

And so on. This kind of quick inline search can be quite powerful once you get the syntax of the date format. You can also find embarrassing old tweets and delete them.
