What Are Windows 11 Minimum Requirements

Following are the basic requirements for installing Windows 11 on a PC. If your device does not meet these requirements, you may not be able to install Windows 11 and might want to consider purchasing a new device. If you are unsure whether your PC meets these requirements, you can check with your PC Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or, if your device is already running Windows 10, you can use the PC Health Check app to assess compatibility.

Note! As of this writing, the PC Health Check app has been removed from the App Store. The reason is because the app is denying millions of PCs for the upgrade. Microsoft has some hurdles to overcome. Let’s find out.

The Requirements

Processor:

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64 bit processor System on a Chip (SoC)

RAM:

4 gigabyte (GB)

Storage:

64 GB or larger storage device

System firmware:

UEFI, Secure Boot capable

TPM:

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0

Graphics card:

Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver

Display:

High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel

Internet connection and Microsoft accounts:

Windows 11 Home edition requires internet connectivity and a Microsoft account to complete device setup on first use. Switching a device out of Windows 11 Home in S mode also requires internet connectivity.

For all Windows 11 editions, internet access is required to perform updates and to download and take advantage of some features. A Microsoft account is required for some features.

Check Your Version of Trusted Platform Module (TPM)

To check this, we are going to use the Device Manager.

First, type “device manager” in the Cortana search box in lower left-hand corner. Next, in the search results, click on Device Manager in upper left-hand corner. Refer to below image:

Now, after the Device Manager opens, scroll down and click on Security Device to expand the menu and see if any TPM entries exist. See below image:

This computer meets the requirement for version 2.0 of TPM.

If you have TPM 1.2, you may be able to upgrade to Windows 11; there are no guarantees.

How to Turn Off and Restart an iPhone

Turning off your iPhone seems like it should be a simple task; and it is, provided you remember the specific buttons you are supposed to press to power down your device. The challenge is that Apple has changed the method every few models so that turning off your iPhone on an older device is quite different than what’s required to turn off the newer models.

To help you turn off your iPhone, there are the different ways you can shut down an iPhone based on Apple’s assorted models. It all comes down to the position of the Sleep/Wake button and whether your iPhone is unlocked with a Passcode, Touch ID, or FaceID.

Sometimes you need to completely shut down your iPhone, perhaps to help with troubleshooting, or to save your battery life during a long period of inactivity, or the device is acting strangely. Fortunately, it’s easy to do.

What is Sleep Mode vs Shutting Down

Normally, when you briefly press the top or side button on your iPhone, the screen on your device turns off, but the iPhone stays running. This is called sleep mode or lock mode. While it turns off the screen, it does not completely power off the device.

In contrast, shutting down your iPhone starts a special software shutdown process where your iPhone cleans up and prepares for power-off. Then, your iPhone turns off completely.

Perform Hardware Shutdown

If you need to turn off your iPhone, the easiest way to do so is by using a hardware button on your device. How to do this varies slightly by model, since certain iPhones include different types of buttons:

On iPhones without a Home Button: Simultaneously hold the side button and the volume up or down button for about four seconds until the power-off slider appears on the screen.
On iPhones with a Home Button and a Side Button: Hold the side button for a few seconds until the power-off slider appears.
On iPhones with a Home Button and a Top Button: Press and hold the top button until the power-off slider appears.

Now, your iPhone will shut down and power off completely.

Perform Shutdown via Settings

First, open Settings on your iPhone. See following image:

Next, in the Settings app, tap General. Refer to below image:

Now, on the General page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap Shut Down. See below image:

When the Slide to Power Off slider appears, swipe your finger to the right. See following image:

Now, your iPhone will shut down and power off completely.

Restart

If you just powered off, waiting 10 seconds is a good rule of thumb before a restart.

For newer models, (12, 11, 10), press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

For iPhone SE (2nd generation), 8, 7, or 6, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo, then release the button.

How to Create a Link for Selected Text in Chrome

Enable the Feature

For some of us, Chrome’s Copy Link to Text feature is enabled by default, for others, it’s not. If this is your case, you will have to manually enable it on Chrome’s experimental flags page.

First, open Google Chrome on your computer. In the address bar of any window, type:

chrome://flags

and press Enter. Refer to below image:

Now, on the Experiments tab that opens, click the search box at the top and type this:

Copy Link To Text

See below image:

Next, in the search results, click the drop-down menu beside Copy Link To Text and select Enabled. See following image:

Now, Chrome will ask you to restart the browser so that the change can take effect. Click Relaunch in bottom left-hand corner. Refer to below image:

After Chrome restarts, the feature will now be enabled.

Create the Link

To use the Copy Link to Text feature, first, open a site and select the text that you want to copy a link for using your mouse or keyboard. See below image:

Next, right-click the highlighted text and select Copy Link to Highlight from the menu. See following image:

Now, Chrome will copy the link for your selected text to your clipboard. You can now share this link via social media, send it in an email, paste it in a text editor, or use any other method. Refer to below image for sending the link via email:

When the recipient clicks the link, they will be taken directly to the page with the previously selected passage highlighted. See below image:

Once the above email link is clicked, you will see the highlighted text in the original document

It’s a very handy feature.. Repeat as often as you like.

First, launch the Chrome web browser on your Windows 10, Mac, Chrome OS, or Linux computer and click the three-dot (hamburger icon) located in the top-right corner. Refer to below image:

Next, click on Settings from the drop-down menu. See below image:

Now, scroll down to find the Safety Check section and click the Check Now option. See following image:

Next, Chrome will kick off the Safety Check test. Depending on how much browsing data you have, this can take anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes. When finished, just click the Review option by any listing. Refer to below image:

In this process, Chrome scans a total of four core modules to look for any malicious code. It will make sure that the browser app is on the most recent version for protection against the latest internet viruses and that all of your installed third-party extensions are harmless. It will also check whether any of your saved passwords have been compromised in a data breach and that Safe Browsing, a setting that warns you against suspicious sites, is enabled.

Once the Safety Check is complete, Chrome will pull up shortcuts for anything that may need your immediate attention, such as reviewing compromised credentials.

After running Safety Check on my PC, it found comprised passwords. See below image where we are displaying three of them:

After taking the recommended steps, you can also run the Safety Check again to ensure that your new security settings are active.

There’s another feature you can use by switching on Enhanced Safe Browsing, an advanced mode that allows Google to assess your browsing for potential threats and suggest privacy-focused improvements. However, we do not recommend using this option because you are choosing to share a copy of your browsing data with Google.

First, open the Safari app on your iPhone or iPad and then tap the URL bar. Here, enter a URL and then press the Go button to open the website. Repeat this process to open all of the websites that you want to bookmark at once. Refer to below image:

Method 1 – Closing a Few Bookmarks

If you already have websites open, tap the Tabs button, and close any webpage that you do not want to bookmark.

Method 2 – Closing All Bookmarks

If you have lots of open bookmarks, tap and hold the Bookmarks button and then view the Add Bookmarks For X Tabs option. You may want to close all, then add tabs using the above process. (In my example. I am closing 208 and adding 4 bookmarks). Once you have done this, select the Add Bookmarks For X Tabs option.

Creating a New Bookmarks Folder

Now, from the next page, give the new folder a name. By default, Safari will save the folder in Favorites but you can tap the button to see all available locations.

Next, after choosing the folder, tap the Save button. (In my example, I entered a new folder of New Bookmarks with 4 tabs). See following image:

Safari has now saved all of your open tabs. To access the tabs later, tap the Bookmarks button from the bottom toolbar. Refer to below image:

Now, locate the folder where you saved the bookmarks. Then tap and hold the folder to see the options. See below image:

Deletion Process

Next, tap the Open In New Tabs button to reopen all of the tabs. Also, you can tap the Delete button to delete the folder. See following image:

Now, select a tab to see its options, then tap the Delete option to delete the bookmark. Note! If you do not select a bookmark and press Delete, all your tabs will be deleted, so be careful. Refer to below image:

Why Windows Snap

The fact that certain windows will maximize when dragged too close to the edge of the screen is thanks to a Windows 10 feature called Snap Assist. It allows you to quickly make windows snap to fill available spaces on the screen without having to resize each one.

To visualize this, let’s say you have a Web browser, Word document, File Explorer, and the Windows 10 Settings app all open on your Windows 10 device. When you snap one of those applications, like Microsoft Word, to the left side of your screen, Windows 10 will show you a layout of your remaining open apps on the right side of the screen. Clicking any one of them will maximize that app and snap it to the right side of the screen.

But not everyone enjoys this feature, and there’s an easy way to turn it off.

How to Disable Snap

First, launch the Settings app by opening the Start menu and clicking the small gear icon in the left side of the Start menu. You can also press Windows+I to launch it. Refer to below image:

Now, in Settings, click System. See below image:

Next, in System settings, click Multitasking in the sidebar. Then, locate the Snap windows option and flip the toggle to turn it Off, See following image:

Now, close Settings. You can now position windows anywhere on the screen without them snapping into place.

How to Reset Windows 10 Settings App

If you are dealing with these problems, Windows 10 includes a way to reset the Settings app using the built-in secret option. Let’s explore how to reset the Settings app when it’s not working.

Like with resetting any other app, when you reset the Settings app, it removes a variety of settings and brings them back to their default values. This can fix bugs and other problems that are caused by your custom settings.

To start resetting Settings, first, click your Start menu. Now, in the Cortana search box (next to the Start menu) type in “settings” (without the quotes). Next, in the search results, right-click the app and select App settings. Refer to below image:

In the Settings window, scroll down to the Reset section and click Reset. See below image:

You will get a prompt stating your app’s data will be deleted. Click Reset in the prompt to continue. See following image:

The Settings app is now reset. Now, you can launch it as mentioned above or by pressing Windows+I.

If this does not fix your issue, you might want to reset your entire Windows 10 PC. (We recommend you only do this as a last resort). This brings all your settings to their default states, potentially fixing many issues on the computer.

View Your Credit Cards

First, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad. Refer to below image:

Next, in Settings, tap Safari. See below image:

Now, in Safari, tap AutoFill. See following image:

Next, in Safar’s AutoFill settings, tap Saved Credit Cards. Refer to below image:

Now, when prompted, enter your PIN or validate your identity with Touch ID or Face ID, Next, you will see a list of credit cards that Safari has saved. Tap any entry in the list to see more details.

On the details screen, you will see the full credit card number and expiration date for the card if Safari has saved that information (Note that the three-digit CVV number on the card’s back is never stored.) See below image:

Next, if you need to edit the information on the card, tap Edit in the upper right-hand corner. See following image:

Now, when you are done editing, tap Done.

Add a Credit Card

If you go back one screen to the credit card list, you can also add a credit card to the list by tapping Add Credit Card. Just enter your information for the credit card. Refer to below image:

Delete a Credit Card

As well as add, you can delete a card from the list by tapping Edit, checkmark the card, and tapping Delete. See below image:

A pop-up message will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. See following image:

When you are done, exit Settings.

How to Name Chrome Windows for Alt+Tab and Taskbar

If you keep many Google Chrome windows open to organize your tabs like me, you can go one step further and name each window. Chrome’s built-in naming feature makes it easy to remember the windows name in the Taskbar or the overview screen (Alt+Tab).

The Windows naming feature was introduced in Chrome 90 and is available for Chrome on Windows 10, Mac, and Linux. It is easy to use and can save you from opening the wrong window.

First, launch Chrome and open a Chrome window. Next, click the three-dot menu (the hamburger) icon in the top-right of the Chrome window. Refer to below image:

Now, from the drop-down menu, select More Tools. See below image:

Next, from the expanded options, click Name Window. If you don’t see this, you are not running Chrome 90. To check your Chrome version, go to:

Click the three-dot menu (the hamburger) icon > Help > About Google Chrome

Now, your Google version will be displayed. Google should auto update to the latest version.

A pop-up text box will appear. Now, enter the name for the window and click OK. Refer to below image:

Alternatively, you can right-click the title bar of the Chrome window and select Name Window from the drop-down menu and go through the process of assigning it a name. See below image:

You will now see this name in the Alt+Tab on Windows 10. See following image:

Additionally, this name will appear in the Taskbar on Windows 10. Refer to below image:

How to Remove Weather and News Widget in Windows 10

Surprise! Microsoft rolled out a taskbar “Weather and News” widget in June 2021. And it is a mess. The widget is running MSN.com all the time in the background, and uses the Edge browser. I do not use either. Besides, you have to go through a myriad of screens to configure the widget. Microsoft is trying to make money by posting ads through the widget.

It’s pretty hard to miss when it appears. You will see a weather forecast in a small box next to the clock and notification area. Selecting the widget opens a panel with more weather info, stocks, sports scores, news, and more. For me, I do not need or want this widget running MSN.com in the background. I can get the widget “cards” info when I want it.

You already have the news and weather through Live Tiles on the desktop. You really do not need duplicated access.

Interesting, if you move the taskbar to the top, left, or right on the screen, the widget disappears. Bug or feature? I think it’s a bug. But, who knows. When Windows 11 arrives in the fall, the UI will change to be Mac-like, a revamped tablet interface, among many other modifications. Microsoft may fix the widget by then.

Fortunately, it’s easy to get rid of it. First, right-click anywhere on the taskbar to load the widget. Refer to below image:

From the menu, select News and interests and then click Turn off from the submenu. See below image:

The weather widget will no longer be present in your taskbar. If you would like to bring it back at any time, simply open the same menu and select Show icon and text.

Alternatively, you can also select Show icon only for a smaller widget that takes up less room on your taskbar.
